Dolly Mixture

Earlier this year I photographed Sarah and Ian's reception at Garvock House, Dunfermline. For their favours they had bowls of dolly mixture and their cake was also covered in dolly mixture.

They married in my favourite church venue, Dunfermline Abbey, although photography is restricted great shots are still possible from the back of the abbey using both ultra wide and telephoto lenses.

Chocolatey Goodness

It's the Christmas holiday and time to try some new processing techniques. Here are some deep rich sepia conversions of Gillian and David's wedding at Aberdour Castle, earlier this year.

The one with the flowergirls and ringbearer is one of my favourite images from 2006, I shall be submitting this shortly as a competition print. Bright sunny days and contrasty light suit sepia.

The third image has been left as colour - the pennants and red carpet deserve to be shown in vivid colour. I look forward to returning to this castle in 2007, it's my favourite castle in Fife.

Walk on by

Yesterday I tried to take a few street photographs on Princes Street including these bagpipe playing Santas.

There is something about this photograph I really like with the lady paying no attention to a somewhat surreal scene.

There is symmetry with the two mannequins and the outstretched mannequin leg to the right of frame.

The photograph almost looks like it's selective colour with the brown tones and the red of the Santa jackets.

On the street

Yesterday I braved the crowds and went shopping / photographing on Princes Street, Edinburgh.

A few artists and scenes that caught my eye are shown below. Including the nativity scene in West Princes Street Gardens.

Merry Christmas

Yesterday was my annual Christmas shopping trip to Princes Street, Edinburgh. However this year I took my camera.

From today I plan to start publising some personal work on this blog as well as my wedding, landscape and commercial photography.

A few favourites are shown below - the dramatically lit building is The Dome on George Street, Edinburgh.

The Dome also hosts weddings and looks like an amazing venue for a wedding celebration, with it's Georgian Suite.

The Flood

Last Wednesday we were nearly evacuated from our home as the Queich burst it's banks and inundated my village.

The floodwaters have subsided about four feet but river levels are still exceptionally high.

This is the North Queich Bridge. There is normally the water is a foot deep under this bridge rather than the present five.

Taken twenty minutes after sunset hence the deep blue, heralding the onset of night.

Gail and Derek

Three weeks ago I assisted Nikki McLeod, who I consider to be Fife's top female wedding photographer, at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.

I've wanted to assist Nikki McLeod for sometime as I admire her creative vision, her use of natural light, the way she uses angles and some of her fisheye work.

While Nikki was doing the getting ready shots I was at the Royal College of Physicians for the shots of the Derek, his best man and the guests arriving.

For the ceremony I photographed from the balcony while Nikki photographed from the aisle. All the wedding photographs can be viewed in full here.

Many wedding photographers assist one another, to learn different approaches and for back up in case of illness. It was a pleasure working with Nikki - she's a lovely woman.

Comfortably Numb

I haven't posted in a while due to illness, my youngest son being in hospital and to top it all off massive flooding in our village, Milnathort. At one point we were nearly evacuated.

The floodwaters have now subsided but Loch Leven is higher than I have ever seen it. So today I put on the chest waders and waded into the floodwaters to take a few landscapes.

Here is one just before sunset - I was submerged in almost four feet of freezing water to take this. It reminded me of that Japanese game show - Endurance.

Forrester Park

Earlier in the year I was at Forrester Park for Patsy and Neil's wedding.

Forrester Park is a great venue for a reception - superb food and a sumptuous dining room

Some photographs from this Patsy and Neils's wedding are shown below:

It's Magic

Last Sunday I photographed a christening party. At the party was a professional magician Steven Dick.

I highly recommend Steven if your having a party or a wedding reception. He was a lovely man and highly entertaining.

Here are a few photographs, the link to all 250 photographs will be e-mailed to Zachary's mum tonight.
