On Monday I was back at Arnot Tower for the wedding of Barbara and Colin. They had a beautiful day and I was pleased to be able to capture some beautiful images. Barbara and Colin had a humanist ceremony which was conducted by Tim Maguire an authorised Celebrant of the Humanist Society of Scotland. It was one of the most moving ceremonies I have photographed and I thank Tim for allowing me a free reign for taking photographs during the ceremony.
Any couples who are interested in finding out more about humanist wedding ceremonies in Scotland should contact the Humanist Society of Scotland. In Scotland, unlike the rest of the UK, Humanist marriage ceremonies have legal status provided they are conducted by an HSS Celebrant who has been authorised by the Registrar General for Scotland
Yesterdays wedding was at the beautiful Fasque house in Angus. The bride, Heather had booked me on the basis of my full wedding galleries were she commented that I seem to capture lots of moments - i.e. tender moments, funny moments and the energy of the Celidh.
My brief for her wedding other than a few formals was to try and capture moments at her wedding. What follows are a few of my many favourite images that I captured during the day. Feel free to leave comments by clicking on comments below the last dancing photograph.
Last Sunday I photographed Amanda and Mike's wedding reception at Piper Dam, near Dundee. Amanda and Mike married in Vegas on 3rd June 07 the day after my own wedding. They had a great party at Piper Dam and some of my favourites are shown below

Whilst on holiday in Robin Hoods Bay, I tried to capture a few landscapes at dusk. One evening after a successful fifteen minutes I returned to the foreshore to be stopped by a tourist.
"I was watching you and wondered what you were trying to capture" He said. "In essence I am after good light, colour, texture and interest through the frame." I replied.
The following shot is one of my favourite images from my holiday: amazing quality of light, rocks in the foreground, reflection in the mid ground, Ravenscar in the distance.
Having a specialist background in landscape photography is a huge advantage when it comes to wedding photography. Landscape photography is about using light and strong compositions and these two elements along with story telling are a vital part of wedding photography in particular reportage coverage.
I see many wedding photographs that have poor lighting as well as composition and are arguably little more than snaps. Using a zoom lens and/or tilting ones camera is not reportage photography. Excellent reportage photographs are often taken up close and personal with a wide angle lens.
A wide angle lens adds context with the venue as a backdrop or other guests that help frame the image. Some of my favourite reportage images from Lisa and Ian's wedding are shown below. All six were taken with a wide angle lens and have elements of good light, composition and storytelling.
